  • Here are some recommendations on how to prepare mentally and physically for a psilocybin session:

    • Mental Preparation

      1. Set Intentions: Reflect on why you want to have this experience. Setting clear, positive intentions can help guide your journey.

      2. Educate Yourself: Learn about psilocybin, its effects, and what to expect. Understanding the process can reduce anxiety and increase comfort.

      3. Emotional Check-In: Assess your emotional state. It's essential to enter the experience feeling relatively stable and calm.

      4. Journaling: Write down your thoughts, fears, and hopes before the session. This can help you process your experience afterward.

      5. Meditation and Mindfulness: Practice mindfulness or meditation in the days leading up to the session to cultivate a sense of inner peace and readiness.

      6. Discuss with a Facilitator: If you're working with a facilitator, have a thorough discussion about your intentions, expectations, and any concerns you might have.

      Physical Preparation

      1. Diet: Eat light, healthy meals in the days leading up to the session. Avoid heavy, greasy foods and alcohol.

      2. Hydration: Stay well-hydrated but avoid drinking large amounts of water right before the session to avoid discomfort.

      3. Exercise: Engage in light physical activity like walking or yoga to help relax your body.

      4. Sleep: Ensure you get adequate sleep the night before to enter the session feeling rested.

      5. Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to enhance physical comfort during the session.

      6. Create a Safe Space: Ensure the physical environment where the session will take place is safe, comfortable, and free from interruptions. Soft lighting, comfortable seating or lying arrangements, and pleasant aromas can contribute to a soothing atmosphere.

      Other Considerations

      1. Support System: Have a trusted person available who can provide support during and after the session, whether they are present with you or available by phone.

      2. Post-Session Plan: Arrange a calm, relaxing activity for after the session and ensure you have time to integrate and reflect on the experience.

      3. Avoid Commitments: Clear your schedule for the day of the session and possibly the day after, allowing ample time for recovery and reflection.

The Sheri Eckert Foundation was established in 2021 to honor Sheri’s legacy and fulfill a clearly stated wish.

Measure 109 co-creator Sheri Eckert, who passed away in December of 2020, spoke frequently of generating support for “equitable access to psychedelic education and services.” In her words, she wanted to create an institution that, “guided by on-the-ground community leaders, would allocate resources to support facilitator training, community education, and service delivery for often underserved populations.”

“If you take the time to explore yourself, to listen to your spirit, to walk among the many less frequented paths within your mind, I am sure you will be amazed at the mesmerizing beauty you will find.”

— Sheri Eckert
